Sustainable economic growth depends on a reliable transportation system. Congestion, safety concerns and the lack of alternatives means we are constantly worried about being late and frustrated by the waste of our time.
Our transport system has become increasingly unreliable. The price of that unreliability is both personal and economic. Spending more on transportation only makes sense if it makes the system more reliable.
We know what it'll take to make the system more reliable - the plans have been in place for years. But, we've been unwilling to make the investment reliably. Instead, we've relied on borrow-now-pay-later gimmicks to build individual projects, leaving future generations to pick up the tab.
