Politics is broken by close-minded partisanship that has paralyzed our government. Most partisan politicians say they are 'for' schools, roads, health care or the environment but focus their energies on the threat posed by the 'other side' on the 5Gs: guns, gays, God, gambling, and gynecology. On every issue, and especially the 5Gs, the partisan extremes have made enemies of those they disagree with. They have used fear to divide us from our friends, neighbors and community. As a result we have lost sight of the common sense core that connects us. We have been voting our fears and are only more afraid. It's time to claim our independence from close-minded politics and fear.
The partisan extremes have hijacked our Minnesota, abandoned our values, and closed down our ability to imagine a better way and then take the practical steps to make it happen.
Minnesotans are not close-minded. Minnesotans expect each of us to work hard, tell the truth, and take responsibility for ourselves and our families while also doing our part to help others and build a strong community. Minnesotans are practical and imaginative - crafting solutions from the best ideas available. Too many political partisans want a quick fix, bend the truth to their liking and use government to help themselves while dividing us from one another. That is not the Minnesota we want.
Minnesotans want an open minded politics that moves us forward by combining imagination with practical action to address the challenges we face. Not left. Not right. Forward.
Minnesotans want leaders who will:
Minnesotans want leadership that opens up possibilities for:
Education: Doubling the odds of Minnesota students getting a college degree (and being able to afford it).
Health Care: World class health for Minnesotans at the nation's lowest cost per person - a system that delivers better health, better care at better price for every Minnesotan.
Transportation: Investing reliably in reliable transportation/transit so that rising congestion (and wasting more of our time) is not our only choice.
Environment: Reducing Minnesota's dependence on oil, repairing damage to the environment, reinforcing economic competitiveness, and reversing the pollution of our lakes and streams.
Better Value: Challenging "the way we've always done it" to get more value from every dollar that government spends today rather than sticking future generations with our debts.
5gs: Keeping these main things the main thing (education, health, transportation, energy/environment and an affordable price of government) without allowing the 5 G's - guns, gays, God, gambling, and gynecology - to divert, divide, scare or paralyze us.
